How an Inverter Generator Works
============================
Traditional portable generators
produce power by using an engine to rotate two large coils of wire
inside a circumference of magnets. Each full rotation of the engine
produces one complete sine wave of AC (alternating current) power. The
engine must maintain an constant speed of 3600 rpm to produce standard
60 Hz (cycles per second). (60 cycles per second times 60 (seconds per
minute) = 3600 cycles per minute). No matter how much load (lights, TV,
sump pump, etc.) is needed, a traditional portable generator must run
at a full speed of 3600 rpm. This produces noise and consumes fuel.
A Robin Subaru
inverter generator produces power in a more efficient
manner.
The engine rotates several small coils of wire in a circumference of
very strong magnets. Each full rotation of the engine produces over 300
sine waves of AC type 3-phase power at up to 20,000 Hz. This method produces more electrical energy per
engine rotation.
However, this power can not be used directly because it needs to be
transformed into the proper voltage and frequency required to power the
user's equipment.
The Robin Subaru inverter uses
a
microprocessor controlled inverter module to "convert" the 3 phase high
frequency AC power into DC power. Then the DC power is "Inverted" to a
very clean standard 120 volt, 60 Hz AC power signal with the electronic
inverter module.
There
are several advantages to inverters:
1. The engine speed is increased
only when more electrical power is required.
So if only a few lights are on, the generator runs slow. When more
items are turned on the engine will automatically speed up to meet the
power needs. This reduces noise and fuel consumption.
2. The electrical components of
an inverter generator are much smaller than a
traditional generator. This allows an inverter to be smaller and
lighter.
3. Robin
Subaru inverter generators are approximately 20% more efficient
than traditional generators. That is, more electrical power is produced
from the engine horsepower. This benefits the user with more power with
less noise and reduced fuel usage.

fully encasing the generator in a noise absorbing enclosure. Large
mufflers are specifically designed for each engine to further reduce
sound output to a minimum. This provides the user with a remarkably
quiet inverter generator.
2. Heavy-Duty Power - Robin
Subaru inverters are designed for both
home and recreational use as well as the demands of contractors.
The critical electrical and inverter module components are engineered for heavy use. The
inverter module uses an imbedded temperature sensor to monitor the heat
of the electronic parts. The microprocessor will automatically cut off
the output power if the generator is overloaded. The generator is
designed to operate at and overload condition of up to 120% of the
rated output for 20 seconds before the output is cut off. This allows
users to start demanding loads like air conditioners and air
compressors which may not start with other inverter brands.
3. Rugged Design
- The larger models use a tubular steel frame and steel fuel tank to
meet the challenges of rough handling when transported for both work or
recreational uses. |
